Gift wrapping, handled at the cart

Wrapt adds a wrapping option and a gift message to your cart. Each wrap style is a real variant in your catalog, so it is charged, taxed and fulfilled like any other line — and the note travels with the order to whoever packs the box.

Free. Two permissions. No theme code to edit.

What happens when a shopper ticks the box

Nothing on this path calls Wrapt. The cart reads your wrap options straight out of your own catalog, which is why wrapping keeps working even if this app is unreachable.

  1. They choose in the cart

A checkbox, a style picker if you offer more than one, and an optional message. On the cart page and in the drawer.

  2. Shopify prices it

The chosen wrap variant is added as a line item. Your tax rules, your currency, your discounts — nothing special happens.

  3. The note is attached

The message rides along as a line item property named “Gift message”, on the wrap line itself.

  4. Fulfilment sees both

The wrap line and its message appear on the order and the packing slip, next to everything else going in the parcel.

Three steps, once

Only the last one happens outside the app, and it takes about a minute.

Add your wrap styles

A name and a price for each — “Kraft & twine”, “Furoshiki cloth”. Most shops start with one or two. A style priced at zero works, and is the usual way to offer plain wrapping alongside a paid option.

Publish them

Wrapt creates one product called Gift Wrap with a variant per style and publishes it to your Online Store. From then on, edits publish themselves.

Switch on the theme embed

In the theme editor, under App embeds. That is where the heading, the message label and its character limit are set too, so the cart never waits on a call to Wrapt.

Built out of ordinary Shopify parts

Gift wrap apps get into trouble by inventing their own pricing, their own line items and their own checkout. Wrapt does not, and that is most of what there is to say about it.

  • A variant, not a surchargeWrapping is a product variant, so it is reported in your analytics, included in your payouts and refunded like anything else.
  • A line item property, not a databaseThe gift message lives on the order, in Shopify. Wrapt never stores it, so there is nothing of your shoppers’ to lose.
  • An app embed, not theme editsNothing is written to your theme. Uninstalling removes the control; it leaves no code behind to find later.
  • Two permissions, both usedPermission to manage products, and to publish one to your Online Store. Wrapt asks for no customer, order or checkout access at all.

Questions merchants ask

A few more are answered in the full FAQ.

Is wrapping charged per item or per order?

Per order. One wrap line is added however many products are in the basket, and choosing a different style replaces that line rather than adding a second one.

Does it work with a cart drawer?

Yes. The control is drawn on the cart page and inside the slide-out drawer, in a more compact form. Themes redraw the drawer after every cart change, so Wrapt watches for that and puts the control back.

Do I have to edit my theme?

No. Wrapt ships as a theme app embed you switch on in the theme editor. It writes nothing to your theme files and never asks for permission to read them.

What happens to the gift message?

It is attached to the wrap line as a line item property called “Gift message”, so it appears on the order in your admin and on the packing slip.
